VRF in refurbishment project is linked to landlord’s condenser water circuit

Because visual and noise restrictions did not permit condensing units on the outside of the Mayfair branch of Halifax Bank of Scotland in London, Air Movement Design devised an air-conditioning system for this refurbishment project based on Mitsubishi Electric’s WR2 water-cooled VRF system. The existing comfort cooling was provided by a wet system using the landlord’s condenser water circuit and packaged fan-coil units. Air Movement Design selected Mitsubishi WR2 heat-recovery condensers, which have been connected via a heat exchanger to the landlord’s condenser water circuit. Bob Lowe, design manager for Air Movement Design, explains, ‘This enabled us to provide simultaneous heating and cooling throughout the branch without the need for any external plant.’ The two WR2 systems are sited in the basement plant room and connected to 15 indoor cassettes and wall-mounted units.
