The art of air curtains at Roca London Gallery

Complementing the design of the Roca London Gallery are JS Windbox air curtains in the reception area.

A welcome reception to the Roca London Gallery is provided by three electric air curtains supplied by JS Air Curtains and specified by M&E Engineer Max Fordham. Roca specialises in ‘bathroom solutions for today and tomorrow’, and the London gallery is described as ’an avant-garde space offering a unique visual and interactive experience with Roca. A place designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, where architecture and Roca products combine to surprise the visitor’.

The design of the gallery is highly stylised, and the reception area is no exception. It was essential that the air curtains did not detract from the aesthetics of the interior. Contractor Scomac Services took Windbox air curtains and designed and fabricated steel moulded covers following the template of the German-manufactured ceiling screens.

‘We also had to make an extended telescopic bezel following JS’s standard design to enable us to connect to the air outlet, ’explained Doug Kenneth, contracts manager for Scomac. ‘The Windboxes’ plug-and-play technology made them very straightforward to install within their unusual steel housing, which has not compromised their high-efficiency performance in any way.’

Windbox air curtains can be use don doorways up to 3.5 m high and are available in five widths to deliver up to 7400 m3/h and 32 kW heat output. A wall-mounted controller provides five speeds. It can be operated by a hand-held infra-red controller or via a BMS. They are also available for LPHW heating and air only.
