Recently opened by HRH Princess Alexandra, this care home in this care home in Surrey has ground-source heat-pump systems with a payback of 12 years, helped by the Renewable Heat Incentive.

Helping a £30 million luxury care home in Surrey achieve a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating and meet local planning requirements is a 200 kW ground-source heat-pump system installed by Econic, part of Myriad CEG. The system cost £280 000 and will deliver £175 MWh a year of heat to reduce heating bills by an estimated £14 350 a year. Its peak COP is four using energy from 30 boreholes with a depth of 115 m.

The system is designed to perform for at least 25 years and will have recovered its initial capital cost after 12 years with the help of payments from the Renewable Heat Incentive. Thereafter the client will continue to receive annual payments of up to £7525.

West Hall in Byfleet, officially opened by HRH Princess Alexandra, includes a listed manor house, 117 en-suite rooms in three new ‘cluster’ buildings, communal spaces, a hairdressing salon, library and a private dining room for special occasions.

The home is set is five acres of the Surrey green belt and has been created by the charity Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care to older people.

Each cluster building has its own closed-loop vertical borehole ground energy collector comprising 10 boreholes and an individual heat-pump system.

In addition to heat pumps, Myriad also provides biomass heating systems, wind turbines and solarPV systems.
