Ultra-violet water treatment helps in the treatment of footballers’ injuries

Hanovia

Some of England’s most famous football clubs use Hanovia’s UV disinfection technology to purify their hydrotherapy pools. Water of exceptionally high quality is required, as the clubs cannot afford for their players to fall ill as a result of water-borne pathogens such as Cryptosporidium or Giardia. One role of state-of-the-art hydrotherapy facilities is to treat muscle injuries and shorten recovery times.

James Hadley of Hanovia explains, ‘Bacteria like Cryptosporidium are highly resistant to chlorine and can’t be eliminated by using the chemical on its own. An additional step is required to ensure their complete removal. UV is now one of the most popular methods of destroying them. In addition, chloramines — the unpleasant by-products of chlorination — can be effectively removed with UV.’

He further explains, ‘UK is much cheaper and safer than the other non-chlorine treatment method — ozone.’
