Cool Energy offers IceCold solution

Cool Energy, IceCold

UK-based Cool Energy UK is bringing IceCold technology to the UK market. This is a solution for refrigerant-based HVAC equipment that uses oil within the refrigerant.

The majority of refrigerants and compressors available on the market today will progressively suffer a marked decline in energy efficiency over time, with more than 5% lost during the first year. This wasted energy is due to oil migrating with the refrigerant and sticking to internal heat transfer surfaces. ASHRAE recognize this problem as an important energy conservation issue.

IceCold is proven to solve this problem. It is a benign two-part catalyst and one-part lubricity agent that does not alter the properties of the refrigerant or oil to which it is added. As a catalyst, it simply prevents oil sticking to heat transfer surfaces. Within weeks of applying IceCold, the improvement in energy efficiency will deliver cooler or hotter air, depending on operating mode; increase system capacity; and allow the compressor to reach its set point faster, thus using less energy.

The energy that is saved using this technology is typically between 15-25% KW/h for equipment that has been running for two to three years, based on numerous case studies over the last decade. The payback is usually within 12 months with excellent annual utility cost savings for the remainder of HVAC equipment life. A single retro-fit application of IceCold is all that is required and no additional servicing of IceCold is required. This maximizes the return on investment every year.
