Hughes Electra applies latest KNX tech in project at Barts Square

Hughes Electra, KNX, Barts Square

A high-end residential project in the heart of London demonstrates the advantages of a KNX. Barts Square is a multi-phase development of residential and office accommodation in central London on land formerly occupied by St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Hughes Electra was appointed as part of the design and contracting team to develop, program and install the KNX automation system and door entry system for this prestigious development.

Phase 1 of the development includes 7 individual blocks providing a total of 144 apartments. The unique design of each block presented the project team with 63 unique apartment types and this required considerable detailed engineering and design.

The comprehensive KNX systems include control of DALI lighting (downlights and feature linear LED) and phase dimmed lighting. The KNX wall panels are programmed to include a pre-set scene (re-programmable by the homeowner) and control of individual lighting circuits. Pre-wiring for future feature pendant lighting was designed to ensure that flexibility for homeowners, offering both phase dimmed and DALI dimming as options.

Control and setup of higher level functions such as timers and global settings are via a KNX master controller in standard apartments, and a KNX touchscreen in penthouses and these penthouses also include comprehensive control of motorised blinds and curtains.
