Thermal imaging comes down in cost

Bringing down the cost of high-resolution thermal imaging, the Irisys IRI 4010.

Irisys claims to have dramatically reduced the cost of thermal imaging with the launch of the IRI 4010. This instrument includes a 9 cm colour backlit LCD display of 160 x 120 pixels. Temperatures from –10 to +240°C can be measured and recorded with an accuracy of ±2% of reading or ±2 K, whichever is greater.

Up to a thousand high-quality images can be stored on the SD card supplied. Two measurement cursors highlight temperature and temperature difference, and a Class II laser focuses on the central measurement area for easy identification of specific hot spots.

This instrument is designed for portability. It is well balanced and weighs 750 g, including the rechargeable 4-hour capacity battery, which can be replaced in the field.

Steve Hollock of Irisys sees applications in the building-services industry, including identifying an overloaded phase on the electrical supply, areas of excessive heat loss through the fabric of a building and preventive/predictive maintenance.

The package, including user manual and software CD, USB cable to download to a PC, AC adaptor etc., is less than £3500.
