The Dundee branch of Slater Menswear is one of many across the UK being air conditioned using Sanyo VRF equipment.

Equipment from the VRF air-conditioning range of Sanyo has been selected for Slater Menswear stores nationwide. ECOi 2-pipe VRF systems for the large open-plan sales floors are supplemented with inverter split systems in modular or cellular areas and rooms. The systems are being designed and installed by Spencair Mechanical and supplied by Sanyo distributor Easy Airconditioning.

As in many retail operations, lighting loads are high to create the right conditions for trade. Air conditioning is thus essential to provide a comfortable environment for customers. Lighting places high demands on the incoming electrical supply, so energy-efficient air conditioning is crucial.

The solutions devised by Spencair Mechanical involved extensive use of ECOi VRF equipment at all sites, generally in the form of ceiling-mounted 4-way cassette units. Where cassettes are not suitable, ducted fan-coil units are installed.

The ECOi 2-way VRF range is specifically developed for the European market. This heat-pump system uses DC inverter technology and R410A and achieves EEL Category A efficiency. The 4 hp model achieves a COP of 4.06 in cooling and 4.34 in heating. The equipment is included in the Energy Technology List.

Outdoor units are said to be among the quietest available. All outdoor units are the same size. There are 10 styles of indoor unit. Control packages include the TouchScreen controller and web browser.
