Hot-water systems avoid risk of legionella

Stokvis Energy Systems is promoting its packaged plate heat exchangers as an economical approach to delivering domestic hot water (DHW) while addressing the risk of legionella. This approach avoids the need for storing large quantities of hot water, instead providing DHW by heating cold mains water directly on demand. These packaged units comprise a series of vertically mounted, corrugated plates in a sandwich structure and can be used with primary and secondary contra-flow systems. The corrugations create a greater surface area and turbulence between the plates to achieve a high degree of heat transfer. For convenience of installation, these units include pumps and motorised primary control valve. They also include controls for temperature, time, safety and flow, return and cold feed. A recent innovation is the C Series of Econoplate plate heat exchangers. They are designed to operate at lower flow and return temperatures and operate well with condensing boilers.
