Hager responds to Building Regulations with flush-fit consumer units

Designed to help meet Part M of the Building Regulations, Hager’s flush-fit consumer units are also faster to install.

A range of flush-fit consumer units from Hager is said to be 25% faster to fit in both solid and partition walls and to help installers meet the requirements of Part M of the Building Regulations (relating to the access and use of buildings).

Steve Dyson, product manager for Hager, says, ‘Flush-fit consumer units will become a more common specification with housebuilders have to meet the requirements of Part M by making them more accessible. It is no longer good enough to hide boards away; devices need to be readily accessible to all, including the elderly and disabled.

To do so, the device switches should be mounted no higher than 1200 mm above the floor and be easily reached. To avoid such units becoming a barrier by sticking out from the wall, flush units will become far more common in new build.’

The range includes 12-way and 18-way split load boards with a 100 A switch or and 80 A/30 mA RCD. There is also a 12-way split load board with 6+6 outgoing ways, a 100 A switch and two 80 A/30 mA RCDs.

There is a choice of 32 or 25 mm knockouts for the incoming cable — which can be from top or bottom or either side.

For outgoing cables, two removable plates at the top and bottom of the box allow the choice of slotted, overlap or 20 mm knockouts from either the top or the bottom.

A full metal DIN rail minimises distortion and ensure that devices fit square in the unit and are not dislodged.
