Dalkia continues to serve up energy-efficient services for Heinz
Published: June 2007
Dalkia has secured a new 15-year contract with Heinz frozen and chilled foods to provide technical facilities services and energy management. Under the contract, Dalkia will significantly upgrade and support the energy plant at the site, which makes the Aunt Bessie’s branded range of frozen foods. It is an extension of the existing 12-year arrangement. The new contract means that Dalkia will continue to maintain the steam plant in the energy centre it originally designed. It has two steam boilers that can supply 18 t/h, one chimney, a water-treatment plant, de-aerator, computerised control and monitoring and fuel storage. Under the new contract, Dalkia will finance and design significant improvements to increase efficiency and reflect the changing needs of the site. The phased scheme will see £180 000 invested in modifications to the distribution system and the installation of a new high-pressure condensate-return scheme. Using an outsourced energy-management provider, Heinz can transfer the risk associated with running the plant to Dalkia. Significant savings in the purchase and storage of fuel oils, steam generation and carbon emissions are an added benefit to the customer. Nigel Dickie, director of corporate and government affairs for Heinz, says, ‘The modern plant has reduced emissions to a minimum over the past 12 years, improving the environmental efficiency of the plant. Heinz’s ongoing relationship with Dalkia is set to reap significant rewards in the future by reducing energy costs further while increasing productivity.’ Related articles: |
