Safety awards come in nines for Airedale

Air-conditioning manufacturer Airedale has been granted the International Safety Award by the British Safety Council — for the ninth year in a row. Only companies with below-average accident rates are eligible to apply, and winners must also have good safety policies, plans and commitment to health and safety. They must also provide information about significant advances they have made in health and safety for the year. Brenda Hemingway is the specialist in health and safety with Airedale. She says, ‘Over the past 12 months, we have reduced the number of accidents by 25% at our 360-strong Leeds facility. What’s more, during the last year, we have introduced for the first time, risk assessment training for each member of our safety team and every service engineer.’ The award was received at a special banquet at Grosvenor House in London by panel wirer Stewart Pinder, a member of Airedale’s health-and-safety team.
