Energy-efficient close-control air conditioning for the mission-critical computing facilities of Salisbury District Hospital is provided by a installation by Moducel, part of the Eaton-Williams Group of companies.

Moducel is providing a closely controlled environment for mission-critical computing facilities at Salisbury District Hospital. The facilities are a key part of the hospitalís infrastructure and operate round the clock.

Two model 40 units from Moducelís Invicta Precision Air Control (IPAC) range have been installed in a master-slave combination. Both are sized to enable the IT facilities to be expanded by 50% in the future. One of the functions of the IT department is to support digital X-rays.

Due to the size of the new IT department, which is a converted storage area, split level and in part of the existing area below ground level, access for ductwork was limited. Moducelís regional office in Cardiff worked closely with the hospitalís resident electrical engineer, Terry Cropp, to design an effective solution.

The IPAC units for this project were made with air delivered upwards and to provide full air-conditioning functions, humidity control and heating. The units were installed outdoors to free up space. Return air is at ground level. The temperature in the computer room is maintained at 21įC and 40 to 60% RH,

One of IPACís key features is its energy savings. The hospital is looking at closer control of higher temperatures in the computer room and less reliance on cooling. Because the computer room is unmanned, comfort cooling is not an issue, so substantial energy savings could be realised by permitting higher temperatures.
