Scottish council plugs into the energy-saving benefits of Hager lighting control

Comprehensive energy-saving control of the lighting in the new headquarters of Angus Council is provided by Hager’s Klik digital connection system to control lighting according to occupany and available daylight.

Hager’s Klik digital connection system (DCS) for lighting control has been installed in the new headquarters of Angus Council to meet amended Scottish Building Regulations. This 3-storey building accommodates 300 people.

The DCS controls all the high-frequency lighting using sensors that combine occupancy detection and daylight linking and was installed by Jay Dee Heating & Electrical.

The two rows of lighting nearest the windows use sensors to control brightness according to daylight levels. If no occupancy is detected, lights are dimmed to a minimum level.

Central areas receive little natural light, so the sensors are programmed only to respond to occupancy.

Remote-control units enable occupant to control lights if they wish, which is particularly important in training and meeting rooms.

Wall switches control the lighting in corridors and toilets.

Hager panel and distribution boards provide circuit protection for the building. Extension boards house metering to measure energy consumption, plus time switches and external photocells that control external lighting.

The metered information is collected and analysed by a building-management system.
