Inverter drives help ASDA reduce energy demand
Published:  September 2007

ASDA stores throughout the UK are using Alldales inverter drives to reduce the energy used by air-handling units.

Alldales has completed the installation of inverter drives for fans in air-handling units at 77 ASDA stores in the UK. The rollout of the technology follows a pilot scheme of 13 stores which demonstrated the energy-saving potential of the technology.

Part of a range of measures by ASDA to cut emissions by 20% by 2012, the drives will reduce the energy bill of a store by up to £6000 a year, particularly in stores with late opening hours or all-day trading.

Inverter drives deliver these savings by regulating motor speeds to control air pressure and flow. Reducing the speed of a motor by just 20% can halve power consumption.
