Compact fluorescent lamp sets standard for energy efficiency

More efficient fluorescent lighting with less mercury — Philips Lighting’s non-integrated compact fluorescent lamp

Philips Lighting has introduced a compact fluorescent lighting system that uses 50% less electricity than other CFLs.

Called Master PL-R Eco, the lamps are separate from the ballasts, which improves operating efficiency and the cost of replacing lamps. Applications include offices, public buildings, hospitals and retail applications like supermarkets.

These new lamps are said to use 25% less energy than Philips C/T-based high-frequency compact fluorescent systems and 50% less than C/T-based electromagnetic compact fluorescent systems.

The new lamps also have the lowest mercury content of any non-integrated CFL available. It is a designated Green Flagship product, meaning it offers substantially better environmental performance than its predecessor or closest commercial competitors on energy consumption, packaging, hazardous substances, weight, recycling and disposal or lifetime reliability.

The improved lamp holder and base has a simple twist-and-lock connection, so there is far less force on the luminaire when lamps are removed and replaced. The compact and appealing design of both holder and base means they do not have to be hidden in the luminaire — opening up new design possibilities.
