Trox completes £1 million contract for fan-coil units

Trox has completed the £1 million order for supplying fan-coil units for the Bishops Square development in London.

In what is believed to be the largest single-order for fan-coil units in the UK, Trox has supplied 3500 waterside FCUs for the £187 million Bishops Square office development in Spitalfields, London. Trox has also supplied a selection of grilles and diffusers.

The contract was worth £1 million, and Trox provided a single point of contact for the complete fan-coil system — including tests in its facilities at Thetford on each size of fan-coil unit to prove thermal output, air distribution and acoustic performance.

Designed by Foster & Partners, the 930 000 m2 development will house the international headquarters of law firm Allen & Overy.

The building comprises 71 900 m2 of offices and 4000 m2 of retail space. It comprises four vertical blocks, each colour coded to represent the four world regions in which Allen & Overy operates — blue for North America, brown for Europe, yellow for the Middle East and red for Asia.

Among energy-saving measures is heat reclamation from the air-conditioning system to heat air in the building as required. There are also solar panels on the roof to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by over 23 t a year.

Other energy-saving measures include triple glazing, passive infra-red detectors to switch lights on and off and reducing the speed of the escalator when it is not in use.

Hilson Moran was consultant for the project. Axima installed the fan-coil units, and Gardners was responsible the the grilles and diffusers.
