Busbar reduces installation time for warehouse power requirements

Published:  09 March, 2008

Over 2000 m of Electrak busbar has been installed in the ceiling voids of a 192 000 m2 extension to the distribution centre of Innovate logistics at Barden In Leicestershire. This high-bay warehouse is used as a UK distribution hub for Nestlé, and the additional space has increased capacity by about a third.

The electrical installation, by Goodmarriott & Hursthouse, involves twin tracks of dual-circuit 40 A Electrak busbar in the ceiling void, which is some 17 m high. One track will be used to power lighting and emergency lighting and the other for general power. The second track will also power destratification fans to help maintain an even temperature for good in all areas.

63 A busbar is installed in the office areas of the extension. There is 117 m of track serving 76 floor boxed.

Colin Bostock of Goodmarriott & Hursthouse, says, ‘This is a major project for Innovate logistics, and the company is keen to ensure that the new facilities are fully operational as quickly as possible. By using Electrak busbar, we are not only able to assure the client of a high-quality solution for their lighting and small-power needs, but, thanks to the system’s ease of installation, we have been able to dramatically reduce the number of man hours needed to complete the job.

‘Quick and simple installation is a major advantage when our teams are working at height on a project like this, and the way in which Electrak’s busbar snap locks together has provided an ideal solution for this challenging installation.’
