Electrak powers office space in redeveloped Fort Dunlop

Electrak, Busbar

28 000 m2 of office space over six floors in the redeveloped Fort Dunlop in Birmingham has it small-power needs met by over 2500 m of Electrak 63A busbar trunking.

Over 2500 m of Electrak’s 63 A underfloor busbar has been installed throughout all six floors of office accommodation in Fort Dunlop, one of Birmingham’s iconic buildings, which has been transformed by Urban Splash. The system was chosen by electrical contractor Mitie Engineering for its ease of installation and cost effectiveness.

It will serve all small-power needs, including PCs, printers, photocopiers etc. As part of the work, Mitie installed over 1500 3-compartment floor boxes across five floors. The work was carried out floor by floor as tenants took up space.

As well as 28 000 m2 of office space, the £50 million redevelopment also includes 4000 m2 of retail and leisure space and a 100-bedroom Travelodge.

Tony Bates of Mitie said, ‘The plug-and-play nature of the Electrak system makes it very quick and easy to install, which has allowed us to save significant man hours on site, helping us to drive down costs and complete the work within tight schedules. The flexibility of the system also means that it will be very simple to reconfigure as and when tenants’ needs change or new occupiers take up space.’
