College converts to water-free urinals to save water

The adapting of 11 urinals to use no water at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education is expect to save nearly 3500 m3 of water a year. The work was carried out by Water Solutions and involved inserting a small mushroom-shaped unit into the outlet of each urinal. The stem of this device ends in a silicone ‘bio-seal’ that allows liquid to pass and then seals automatically. The domed head releases a faint citrus smell when activated by urine. The lead-in pipework was also removed and traps replaced with simple bends. Water Solutions is contracted to replace the valves every 12 weeks.
