Armstrong demonstrates efficient pump control for a data centre
Published:  December 2008
Armstrong pumps

Pump-energy costs in this packaged plant room for a data centre will be nearly halved using variable-speed drives for the Armstrong pumps, compared with constant-speed constant volume pumps.

Armstrong variable-speed drives have been selected for a packaged plant room for the data centre of ATOS Origin in Andover for their potential to nearly halve energy consumption compared with constant-speed constant-volume alternatives.

This plant room was made off site to provide reliable and efficient cooling for the expansion of the data centre. It was specified by design consultant C & W Partners and incorporates two pump packages.

One has four Armstrong 4300 Series pumps controlled by Armstrong IPS. The other has two 4300 pumps, also with IPS control. Pulpress pressurisation equipment and a dirt and air-separator system are also installed.

The plant room was made in Armstrong’s factor and delivered tested and in an enclosure, requiring only final connections.
