Durapipe pipework serves Manchester apartments

The water and drainage requirements for the 213 apartments of Potato Wharf in Manchester are met using Durapipe pipework systems.

In response to ever-tightening budgets and deadlines for two apartment developments in Manchester, a variety of pipework systems from Durapipe have been specified and installed by contractor Hirst & Danson.

The developments of Flint Glass Wharf and Potato Wharf use Wefatherm PP-R for the boosted cold water and Akatherm HDPE for drainage.

The Wefatherm pipework was supplied in sizes from 15 to 160 mm for the boosted cold-water system, which transfers water from the mains outlet to each apartment in the blocks. Its quick and easy installation was more cost-effective than steel or copper.

For the soil and rainwater drainage requirements, Akatherm in sizes from 110 to 160 mm was installed. Some pipework is installed outdoors, for which its high impact resistance is an important feature.

Darren McVeigh, project manager with Hirst & Danson, comments, ‘I have worked with both Wefatherm and Akatherm systems on previous similar apartment developments with great success. The products have always been quick and easy to work with during installation, whilst offering high performance benefits to the end user.’
