Fan-speed balancing of Ability fan-coil units contribute to energy efficiency of Salisbury Law Courts

Ability Projects’ Matrix fan-coil units that enable air volume to be balanced through fan speed alone are being installed in the new Salisbury Law Courts. This 4250 m2 complex is being developed by Dean & Dyball Investments and is due to open for used by HM Court Service later this year. It will replace the existing Salisbury Crown and County Court and magistrates’ courts in Salisbury and Devizes. The Matrix fan-coil units enable each air duct/grille to be balanced for air volume through fan speed alone, removing the need for volume-control dampers. The units are 270 mm deep and supplied with free-issue Frese actuators, Alerton BACnet open-protocol intelligent controllers, factory pre-wired to the fan coil and complete with dedicated software and Sontay sensors. The controller provides wireless access from a lap top computer to all fan-coil features and settings without needing access to the ceiling void. The building is expected to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Air conditioning is based around 70 matrix chassis-type horizontal 4-pipe FCUs with cooling capacities from 500 W to 7 kW and heating from 500 W to 2 kW. They were installed by Dodd Group of Telford.
