Passivent racing team qualifies for Greenpower national final

Pupils from a school in Burgess Hill qualified for the Greenpower Formula 24 final with support and sponsorship from Passivent.

Cars sponsored by natural-ventilation specialist Passivent have secured two spots in the Greenpower Formula 24 final. These electric cars were driven by pupils from St Paulí Catholic College in Burgess Hill, and were up against 38 other entrants aged 11 to 16. The St Paulís drivers finished fifth and seventh.

After a funding shortfall due to Government cut≠backs, Passivent sponsored the annual Greenpower Greater London heat at the ĎTop gearí track at Dunsfold Park in Surrey. Passivent and Greenpower have partnered to give young people the opportunity to learn about mechanics and technology in a real-life scenario. Greenpower is also supported by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Passivent has worked with pupils at St Paulís to design, build and race their own cars. They use a 24 V electric wheelchair motor and four 12 V car batteries to power the car in a series of 4-hour endurance races.

Passivent helped make the car panels from recycled ABS material using its Airstract and Airscoop ventilation roof terminals. Passivent also helped in the engineering of the aluminium box-frame chassis, showing the pupils how to TIG weld by applying in-house experience from making Aircool louvres.
