Representing Roth UKís largest solar-thermal project is this installation at St George Wharf on Londonís South Bank

The largest single UK installation of Roth solar-thermal collectors is for the mixed-use development at St George Wharf on Londonís South Bank. It comprises 94 Heliostar flat-plate collectors, which form part of a solar-thermal solution that includes pumping stations and auxiliary equipment. The system supplied by Roth is designed to heat part of the final phase of the 7 acre siteís domestic-hot water supply.

Under current planning permissions, St George Wharf will offer over 1414 private and 390 affordable new homes. The development also includes shops, bars, restaurants, landscaped courtyards and a 275 m riverside promenade. First completions at the schemeís Aquarius House, which com≠prises apartments and penthouse accommodation, are expected in Spring 2010.

Mike Darvill, Roth UK managing director, says, ĎA polycarbonate base for the Heliostar 218 makes this a highly advanced solar flat-plate collector. The product, designed by Roth at our purpose-built R&D facility, is highly durable, very light and extremely effective. The architects, Broadway Malyan, were also impressed with the honesty of our advice. We donít speculate on output, we use advanced software to provide sensible estimates.

Rothís installation partner for the scheme is Natural Power Wales.
