The refurbished Ceramics Galleries in the Victoria & Albert Museum have their ventilation system based on Elta fans.

The ventilation system for the new Ceramics Galleries in the Victoria & Albert Museum is based on Elta fans. As part of the V&A’s FuturePlan scheme, the world-renowned ceramics collection is being completely redisplayed in redesigned galleries. Seven galleries are now open, and a second phase of four further galleries will open in June 2010. These galleries house a collection ranging from the earliest Chinese pottery to contemporary ceramic art.

The ventilation system was designed by consulting engineers Norman Disney Young, the concept being to reinstate the original Victorian ventilation system, when the galleries were first built, with the assistance of fans.

Contractor JSMS specified Elta SCPP axial-flow fan units to deliver the design brief. Six units were installed in the first phase, and a further six will be installed in the second phase.

SCPP 2-stage axial-flow fans have been specially developed for high-pressure requirements, where regulation specifies more efficient filtration systems. The contra-rotating 2-stage fans supply additional power to the unit, dramatically cutting the workload for the fan. Fans for this project were supplied by distributor SK Sales.
