Vent-Axia provides MVHR for low-carbon retrofit project

Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon technology has contributed to the 80% carbon-reduction target through retrofitting energy-saving technology in the renovated Sunpower CO2ttage in Stroud, Hampshire. The home already meets the required Government target for existing homes to achieve by 2050.

Paul Ciniglio, owner of the cottage, has installed a Vent-Axia HR25 Solo MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) system into this 2-bedroom mid-terrace cottage built in 1990.

The system was installed in the kitchen and bathroom facilities and recovers up to 84% of the heat that would otherwise be wasted during the heating season. Lo-Carbon DC motors further improve efficiency and carbon-reducing capabilities.

Other energy-saving features include vastly improved thermal insulation and air tightness, recyclable A-energy-rated argon-filled double glazing with low-emissivity glass, air-source heat pump for space heating with low-water-volume radiators, wireless control and solar PV panels.

The renovated home also has AAA-rated household appliances. Water-saving measures include ultra-low-flush WC, aerated shower head, water meter and rain-water harvesting.

This £30 000 project was supported by the South Downs Joint Committee sustainable-development fund.
