SummitSkills launches equivalence framework for qualifications of migrant workers

Published:  02 September, 2010

SummitSkills has launched an equivalence framework for qualifications in building-services engineering not awarded in the UK. Based on benchmarking and mapping non-UK qualifications against the SummitSkills electrotechnical and mechanical national occupational standards, the framework has been developed to provide employers with a simple but robust method to measure the equivalence to UK occupational qualifications and other industry standards.

Keith Marshall, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘In any skilled industry, it is important that employees have the relevant training, and the BSE sector is no exception. With migrant workers applying for and already working in the UK, there is often some confusion around the relevant and equivalence of various non-UK building qualifications.

‘As the Sector Skills Council for the BSE sector, SummitSkills aims to provide employers with the correct tools to be able to access the required information to ensure any migrant workers are appropriately qualified.’

Access to the framework is free to members of certain trade associations and available to others for a fee.
