Solar-thermal energy using collectors from MHS Boilers is among sustainable technology at the new Teddington School.

36 m2 of evacuated-tube solar collectors supply by MHS Boilers support space heating and domestic hot water at the new £37 million Teddington School. It was built by Mace, with BDP as the architect and consulting engineer. The school specialises in visual arts and has state-of-the-art facilities for nearly 1200 pupils. It is one of the most sustainable schools in the country.

The solar collectors have a flexible and stable mounting system to make installation and alignment towards the Sun simple. The tubes can be rotated by ±30° so that the best angle to solar radiation can be achieved.

The absorber plate is of aluminium and has a highly selective coating. This surface is metallically bonded to a coaxial copper-tube system so the absorbed heat can be carried out directly and with very slight loss to the heat-carrying fluid to the solar-energy system.
