Advanced Air supplies its Epic fan-coil units for Canary Wharf project
Published:  February 2011

One of the first major projects to install Advanced Air’s highly efficient Epic fan-coil units is the State Street Bank building at 20 Churchill Place in London’s Canary Wharf. The energy-saving capabilities of these FCUs, with a specific fan power as low as 0.15 W/l/s, was a major factor in their selection. The units were specially designed and are part of a £400 000 contract that included associated diffusers and plenum boxes.

These FCUs have a fan-deck arrangement with horizontally mounted fans using ECM motors that incorporate a ‘smart card’ that keeps the air volume constant irrespective of external resistance.

Chilled-water temperatures were elevated to 12/17°C to maximise free cooling.

To serve large areas, units with cooling capacities up to 5.8 kW were required. Advanced Air designs and makes its own fan decks, and the best size was found to be 1500 x 975 x 333 mm with an air volume of 780 l/s.
