The replacement of old and inefficient boilers in supported housing at Caterham with six Vaillant ecoTEC boilers providing 390 kW has substantially reduced gas costs.

To increase the efficiency of space heating and domestic hot water when supported housing of Le Personne Benevolent Trust in Caterham was increased from 23 flats to 43, six Vaillant ecoTEC 65 kW commercial boilers have been installed in the centralised boilerhouse. They were installed on the recommendation of services and maintenance consultant BRM Associates by S&S Engineering.

The trust was established in 1941 from a legacy from Louis Le Personne in memory of his wife Henrietta Frances, who was the first lady county councillor in Surrey. It has provided affordable house for the elderly ladies of Caterham for 58 years.

These six new boilers replace three inefficient boilers. Maintenance manager at Le Personne Trust Dave Yarwood, explains, ‘Our residents tend to feel the cold even in warmer weather, so the boilers here run 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Because of this it was vital that the product selected was as energy efficient as possible. We are really pleased with the ecoTEC commercial boilers, especially because our gas bills have noticeably reduced since the installation in September 2009.’
