Heat pump helps student accommodation to be carbon neutral
The Energy Performance Certificate for newly converted student accommodation in Manchester has been boosted from G to A, with the help of a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pump to provide heating and hot water. The 9-bedroom property was built in the early 1900s and converted by Beech Properties to accommodate nine students.
The building is now carbon neutral, thanks to the 14 kW Ecodan unit, a 4 kW solarPV array on the roof and a heat-recovery ventilation system.
The Ecodan unit provides heating and hot water and is classed as renewable technology.
Stephen Beech, proprietor of Beech Properties, said, ‘The Ecodan was straightforward to install and requires little maintenance other than an annual check, which is important to me as a landlord. Unlike gas, it doesn’t require a safety certificate.’
