Harmonac air-conditioning report

Published:  02 June, 2011

The final newsletter of the now completed Harmonac project to understand more clearly how air-conditioning systems consume energy in practice and to assess opportunities for energy savings is now available on the project’s web site. This newsletter is a summary of the project’s main findings.

The project proposes a series of air-conditioning inspection procedures based on the investigation of a series of energy-conservation opportunities (ECOs).

Small air-conditioning systems appear to offer some of the largest average energy savings, with potential savings of around 60% identified in the 270 UK field trials.

Control ECOs are among the most frequently occurring in the case studies and offer some of the largest savings for little or no investment. Unfortunately, many control ECOs will not be identifiable through the current inspection process as they occur over time and need detailed metered data to identify.
