Elta Fans puts better comfort on the menu

Greater comfort and energy efficiency in this refurbished kitchen of a Dartmoor inn have been improved by demand-controlled ventilation.

As part of the extensive refurbishment of The Three Crowns Inn on the north-east edge of Dartmoor, working conditions in the kitchen have been improved by demand-controlled ventilation based on an Elta Fans system. The restaurant seats nearly 80 diners and is open for lunch and dinner every day. There is also a function room for 100 people.

There is only a single-phase supply so a frequency inverter that could deliver a 3-phase supply to the fan was installed. The inverter is programmed to provide minimum and maximum speeds to control duty point against noise levels. The inverter also provides overload protection for the system and facilitates integration with the gas-control panel.

Significant energy savings can be made by adjusting ventilation rate according to restaurant occupancy or activity in a commercial kitchen.

Andy Bonsall, manager of The Three Crowns, says, ‘The kitchen is busier than ever but is now noticeably much, much cooler. Working conditions are far more pleasant, not only because of the lower temperatures and improved airflow, but also because the system is much quieter than before. The unit and controllers are simple to understand and couldn’t be easier to use.’
