Pegler Yorkshire helps to make new sound of music
Published:  June 2011
Pegler Yorkshire, pipework

The expression ‘piped music’ has been given a new meaning with the creation of this instrument by a music student using products from Pegler Yorkshire. The instrument, dubbed the Peglerphone, has become the centrepiece of a musical orchestration project organised by Doncaster musician Rebecca McChrystal (pictured). The Peglerphone itself is a percussion instrument designed and created by Stefan Tooke, a Sheffield-based award-winning metal worker.

Rebecca McChrystal played the instrument to over 150 guests at a special concert on Pegler Yorkshire’s premises in Doncaster. She said, ‘I am thrilled that Pegler Yorkshire has allowed me this wonderful opportunity to exhibit how music does not have to conform to usual expectations. It will add a dimension of mystery and intrigue, firmly cementing the holistic partnership between industry and music, and thereby raise the awareness of music service in the region and nationally.’

She was supported by soprano saxophonist and composer Charlotte Harding and Royal College of Music graduate Daniel Saleeb who was creator of the musical masterpiece.
