Space Air helps replace air conditioning in 5-star hotel

Space Airconditioning, air conditioning
The expertise of Space Airconditioning played a key role in the replacement of air-conditioning systems in this hotel in Covent Garden.

Space Airconditioning has supplied replacement air-conditioning systems for a 5-star hotel in the Covent Garden area of London. The extensive refurbishment required a high level of technical design and planning in a quick timescale and road closures.

The hotel has 137 bedrooms, and the existing air-conditioning system had to be decommissioned and removed in various phased works for the major strip out, which required roads to be closed to provide access for cranes.

Space Air supplied a Daikin air-cooled stepless screw chiller with total heat recovery option. In addition, 193 4-pipe fan-coil units were installed throughout the hotel to serve bedroom, restaurants, bars, conference facilities and back of house.

To simplify installation, Space Air pre-fitted valve sets and controls and configured all the fan-coil units for left- or right-hand connection as required.

These FWM fan-coil units were selected for their low noise levels and ease of installation, as they fitted perfectly into the bedroom bulkheads. Heat from the rooms is recovered via the optional heat-recovery heat exchanger and transferred to the DHW system. The new 300 kW chiller operates alongside another Daikin chiller supplied by Space Air at an earlier stage in the project.

Ventilation throughout the building is provided by 12 Daikin heat-recovery ventilation units. They are installed outside and fitted with Space Air’s weather-proofing kit.

Installation work was carried out floor by floor.
