Durapipe PLX helps maintain power for HSBC data centre
Published: January 2012
A key role in the operation of a new £150 million data centre for HSBC in Yorkshire is played by the Durapipe PLX pipe-in-pipe specialist fuel pipework system to deliver fuel oil from storage tanks to standby generators in the case of an emergency. M&E contractor ASEE supplied and installed this pipework system for the centre at Normanton. The pipework is underground, so a system was needed that would ensure fuel oil will not leak into the ground. Durapipe PLX pipework in sizes 50/63 mm and 90/160 mm was installed to carry fuel oil from the 30 000 l holding tank to eight bulk tanks, which in turn supply the day tanks for the generators. PLX has a design life of 30 years. Stuart Davies of ASEE explains, ‘The product material characteristics and specifically the pipe-in-pipe aspect as it could be monitored with a leak-detection system above ground, was the deciding factor for us, as we needed to be confident we would not be accountable for fuel leaking out into the ground.’ For more information on this story, click here: Jan 2012, 131 Related articles: |
