BBES wins Edinburgh redevelopment contract

Balfour Beatty Engineering Services has been awarded a £5 million contract to install M&E services for a new office development at Quartermile in Edinburgh known as Q9.This commercial building is part of the Quartermile development, one of Scotland’s largest regeneration schemes and is on the site of the formal Royal Infirmary.

The project will achieve a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating, which will be attained by using high-efficiency air-conditioning plant and equipment, LED lighting and building-control systems.

BBES will install the air-conditioning, ventilation, water, smoke clearance, lighting and alarm systems on the 16 000 m2 6-floor grade A office building for Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd.

Derek Sanders, BBES’s engineering services regional director for Scotland, says, ‘We will be utilising our Modular Systems+ off-site manufacturing facility to ensure maximum safety, best quality and programme certainty on the project.’
