Ant Wilson elected fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering

Ant Wilson, Royal Academy of Engineering

Ant Wilson, director for sustainability in building engineering with AECOM, has been elected one of 47 new fellows for 2015 of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is a fellow of CIBSE and well known throughout the industry for various roles within CIBSE and industry bodies such as BSRIA, of which he is a council member and chair of the energy and sustainability network. He is also a principal author, with Doug Oughton, of ‘Faber & Kell’s heating and air conditioning of buildings’.

There are just over 1500 fellows, and new fellows are elected from a list of candidates nominated by two existing academy fellows. CIBSE members who are fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering include former CIBSE presidents David Fisk, Max Fordham, David Arnold and Doug Oughton.

Election is based on ‘individual engineering excellent at some time in his or her career’. Ant Wilson’s citation describes him as an ‘outstanding building-services engineer who is renowned for his commitment to sustainability.

He led the UK implementation of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and was involved in the design of the Acclaimed Sainsbury’s Millennium Store at Greenwich and the Halley Antarctica Research Station.

The citation also refers to his detailed technical work for the 2002 Building Regulations and the development of new performance-based requirements that were essential to the 2006 revisions.

Ant Wilson says, ‘I am thrilled to have been elected a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and joining the very few building-services engineers who are fellows. I am looking forward to promoting the concerns and capabilities of building-services engineers in helping to achieve a more sustainable environment.’
