Greenest university building in Europe?

Passivhaus

Believed to be the first building on a university campus in Europe to achieve both BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and Passivhaus accreditation is the Enterprise Centre of the University of East Anglia on the edge of Earlham Park, Norwich. Bidswell was planning consultant for the project, which was developed by the Adapt Low Carbon Group and delivered by Morgan Sindall with a team that included Passivhaus designer Architype, with BDP as building-services and structural engineer.

The Enterprise Centre incorporates a array of locally sourced materials, including prefabricated and vertically hung straw-thatch panel cassettes used to clad the building.

Facilities include an innovation laboratory, 300-seat lecture theatre, flexile workspaces, teaching and learning facilities. There are also business incubator units for SMEs and start-ups in the low-carbon sector.
