Big Foot provides support solution for lightweight roof

Big Foot, roof top plant, support system

New air-handling units to increase the capacity of the cooling ventilation for the production hall of Coca-Cola Enterprises Great Britain at its Wakefield factory are supported on the lightweight roof by Big Foot Systems’ HD beams. The company also supplied a custom safe-access solution.

The two air-handling units were installed on the existing lightweight standing-seam room. The project required minimal disruption to operations during installation and to reduce the risk of a leaking roof above a facility capable of producing 6000 cans of soft drink and up to 2200 bottles every minute.

Big Foot’s technical team suggested several solutions, leading to a fully developed solution using HD beams to span the main rafters and the purlins, while taking the load back to the main rafters. The solution also provided safe access for maintaining the new AHUs. The system can be adjusted to maintain a level installation on a roof fall of up to 5°.

Big Foot’s technical team was on site for the frame erection and AHU crane lift to the roof using a 250 t crane with a 60 m reach.
