MediaCityUK submits plans for doubling in size

MediaCityUK

MediaCityUK is set to double in size over the next decade under plans submitted to Salford City Council. Up to 10 new buildings are envisaged, with a development value of over £1 billion.

Key features of phase two of MediaCityUK include 50 000 m2 of offices, 1800 apartments, retail and leisure, complemented by innovative public spaces with a pedestrian promenade running through the scheme. Outline approval for the plans was granted in 2006. The latest detailed proposals are expected to be considered by Salford’s planning panel in September.

MediaCityUK already houses 250 businesses — including the BBC, ITV, dock10, Ericsson and SIS. Due to come on stream during the summer is the new Tomorrow building. The Lightbox apartment block is due to commence construction in early 2017.
