SES completes services for school for the future

Building-services contractor SES has completed the £6.5 million M&E contract at the new PFI Education Village in Darlington. This £37.3 million project has been hailed as the ‘natural exemplar’ for education in the country and brings three local schools together to create one learning campus. The site will accommodate 1400 pupils aged three to 19. Facilities include PE facilities to Sport England standard, 25 m swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool, dance and drama studios, and interactive music therapy rooms. Each classroom has wireless Internet connections. Steve Joyce, operations manager with SES, said. ‘It is a difficult task to accommodate such a range of ages and children with special needs into one school. We had to provide a number of innovative solutions, including specialist systems and additional mechanical ventilation, as children with certain special needs can be easily distracted when using natural ventilation.
