The new complex is designed by architects Nightingale Associates and will provide 5500 m2 of laboratory facilities for scientists using the UK’s new synchrotron, the Diamond Light Source, and other Government-funded world-class scientific resources — including ISIS, the neutron Spallation source and the Central Laser Facility, both operated by the STCF.
The building and its services will be designed to reduce energy use and lower the carbon impact of the scheme. Features could include exposed concrete soffits, a direct-ground-coupled fresh-air displacement-ventilation system, solar hot water and process-extract heat-recovery systems.
