Fläkt Woods provides the full treatment for medical centre

New air-handling units are at the heart of an air-conditioning upgrade carried out by Fläkt Woods for a medical distribution centre in Northampton.
Fläkt Woods has completed an air-conditioning upgrade project for the national distribution centre of Baxter Healthcare in Northampton, which handles medical products. Following an inspection of the existing system, Fläkt Woods proposed two EU air-handling units to replace the existing units. The requirement was for heating, as provided by the previous units, and also controlled cooling to enable temperature inside the centre to be maintained within set limits. To accompany these two air-handling units, Fläkt Woods has also provided a cooling coil for a third AHU and a Climafläkt chiller to provide chilled water to all three AHUs. The ductwork system was also insulated, with this work carried out from motorised high-level platforms out of normal working hours to avoid disruption to the working pattern in the centre. The full supply and install package included the installation of 200 m of a 450 A power supply integrated into the site’s MCC panels, the supply and installation of a 450 kW chiller, associated pipework and the upgrading of the existing Staefa control system, including integration of the new chillers, all final connections and commissioning.
