Members of both associations were urged to record their views on two key issues.
First, they were asked to offer their support for the concept of convergence — the creation of a single organisation to represent mechanical and electrical contractors.
Secondly, they were invited to support the formation by ECA and HVCA of a group that would examine the views already expressed by members and produce a model for a single organisation on which the ECA and HVCA memberships could in due course be consulted.
The survey was undertaken by independent research consultancy Metra Martech. It showed that 81% of HVCA respondents, representing 20% of the membership, believe that convergence would be broadly beneficial, while 84% support the formation of a Joint ECA/HVCA convergence group.
The results of the ECA survey are due on 23 April.
