Buderus cuts the cost of education

Up to 40% lower fuel consumption than the boilers they replace — the new Buderus installation in a school in Manchester.

Fuel costs for boiler plant at Withington Girls’ School in Manchester are expected to be reduced by up to 40% following the replacement of 30-year old boilers on the recommendation of Belfry Maintenance Group, which had maintained the old boilers for many years.

The new installation comprises six Buderus GB162 100 kW boilers installed as a multi-boiler cascade system. They occupy a floor area of 1.5 m2, and modulate down to 19 kW — the minimum output of one boiler.

Buderus EMS intelligent controllers allow heating and hot water to be programmed for times when it is actually required. The system is also zoned.

Also contributing to the efficiency of the new installation is the finned aluminium heat exchanger with a twisted flow channel to maximise heat exchange.

Because of its energy efficiency, the new heating system qualified for an interest-free loan from the Carbon Trust.
