Sanyo boosts the efficiency of its gas-powered VRF units

Sanyo’s latest gas-driven VRF units achieve 19% greater efficiency than previous models.

The launch by Sanyo Airconditioners Europe of its ECO G Gas M Series of heat pumps provides an alternative to traditional electrically powered VRF air conditioning.

The compressor is driven by a gas-fired engine rather than an electric motor.

These new outdoor units can serve up to 48 indoor units. Other improvements include increased part-load performance, reduced gas consumption with a Miller cycle engine and reduced electrical consumption. The refrigerant is R410A, which, combined with enhanced heat exchangers and an engine-management system, contributes to a 19% increase in efficiency.

There are three units in the M Series.

One can supply cooling, heating, hot water and also generate 4 kW of electricity.

Another is a 3-way heat-recovery VRF system to provide simultaneous heating and cooling.

There is also a heat-pump model.

Waste heat from the engine can be recovered and re-used and also ensures that the system does not need a defrost cycle. During cooling mode, rejected heat from the engine can up to 22 kW to supply hot DHW at 65°C.
