Raychem protects against freezing pipes at Cranfield
Published:  November 2008
Raychem

Exposed water service lines at Cranfield University’s new facility for health research and teaching on the campus in Essex are protected against frost by Raychem self-regulating heat-tracing systems.

Astec of Great Yarmouth, a distributor partner of Tyco Thermal Controls, was commissioned the M&E contractor Lorne Stewart to provide frost protection for all exposed pipework on the roof top and in plant-room areas. The Raychem solution activates the heating cables if the temperature drops below 5°C. These self-regulating cables deliver just the right amount of heat exactly where it is needed to prevent water lines from freezing.
