Dimplex welcomes extension of phase 2 of the LCBP

Heat-pump specialist Dimplex has welcomed the extension of phase 2 of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme until April 2011. An additional £45 million has been allocated to the LCBP, £35 million of which has been directed to phase 2 (the public-sector stream). The extension of the scheme will support the development of renewable technologies until the introduction of feed-in tariffs and the renewable-heat incentive. The extended scheme now covers all Dimplex products registered on the Microgeneration Certification Scheme or carrying the Solar Keymark. The extension of the scheme increases the upper limit of grants for heat-pump technologies from 45 to 300 kW — to a limit of £200 000. Under LCBP2 so far, Dimplex has been one of three framework suppliers of ground-source heat pumps. The extended scheme means that air-source heat pumps and solar-thermal water-heating system swill be eligible for grant assistance. With over 200 projects approved to date for ground-source heat-pump funding under LCBP2, nearly half have specified Dimplex equipment. Chris Davis, head of renewables at Dimplex, comments, ‘The extension of the scheme is excellent news. Since the beginning, LCBP2 has supported the growth of the fledgling renewables industry in the UK and helped hundreds of public-sector organisations to enjoy low-carbon heating from ground-source heat pumps.
